Big changes coming to YouTube: All right, so the YouTube CEO just announced major updates for 2025 that will impact how creators make money, grow, and use AI. And in this video, I’m going to walk you through that letter and share the most important things that you should know. Also, there will be a link to the full post in the description. All right, let’s start with one of the biggest updates, more ways to earn on YouTube. Many people dream about becoming full-time YouTubers, but making a steady income can be tough, especially if ad revenue is your only source of money. But making money on YouTube isn’t just about ads anymore. In fact, Neil shared some really good news. Last year, more than 50% of channels earning five figures or more on YouTube made money from sources other than ads in YouTube Premium. This year, YouTube is making it easier for creators to earn money in more ways. First, they’re improving channel memberships, making shopping better, and introducing new ways for creators to partner with brands. YouTube is also making it easier for creators to partner with brands. YouTube is also finally launching courses, which lets creators sell lessons directly on the platform, kind of like Skillshare, and creators get to keep most of the revenue.

And then, for podcasters, he shared that YouTube is now the most frequently used service for listening to podcasts in the U. S. He also said that YouTube will bring out new tools to support podcasters, improve monetization for creators, and make it even easier to discover podcasts. For many creators, ads now make up a smaller part of their income, not because earnings have dropped but because YouTube keeps introducing more ways to get paid.YouTube says that how creators make money isn’t the only thing changing. How people watch videos is changing, too. For the very first time in history, he says that YouTube TV has surpassed mobile and is now the primary device for YouTube viewing in the U. S. This shift is leading to more watch time for creators.

More channels are seeing the majority of their watch time coming from TV audiences who tend to binge-watch and watch videos for longer periods. So this year, YouTube advises that you should be creating with a TV audience in mind. To help content perform better on TV, YouTube shared these three key strategies. One, be sharp. Not everyone cares about extra crispy 4K video and 720p thumbnails, but those that do really do.And pretty much every phone and camera shoots in 4K these days anyway, and all those extra pixels really do look extra good on the big screen. Two, be bingeable. If your audience is already watching on TV, give them a thumbs up. And if you haven’t already done so, give them a thumbs up. Give them more to watch. Don’t artificially pad out your videos. That’ll get you skips. But lean into longer, more compelling stories and series of related videos that not only get people watching but keep them watching.

Three, be browsable. Channel pages on TV are especially epic. So make sure your home tab features sections that put your freshest and most popular videos and playlists right up top. And since so many people are going to TV, YouTube is making the experience there better.YouTube is testing new interactive TV features, such as a second screen experience that lets users interact with videos through their phones. And Watch With, which allows creators to give live commentary and real-time reactions to games and events. So, how people watch is changing. How creators earn is changing. And YouTube believes how creators use AI will change. Neil shared that as impressive as the generative models are, creators tell us that they’re most excited about the ways AI can help with their bread-and-butter production. Now, I had no clue what bread and butter production meant. But after looking it up, YouTube is pretty much saying that while AI-generated content is cool, most creators see AI as a way to improve their workflow, helping with things like editing, scripting, translations, thumbnails, and production, not for generating finished content. So YouTube is focusing on, I quote, AI tools that empower creators. Neil highlighted one major improvement. He says that last year we launched auto dubbing, which helps creators translate their videos into multiple languages with a touch of a button. We’ll soon make auto-dubbing available for all creators in the YouTube Partner program.

This is huge news because he also shared this key statistic. For videos with dubbed audio, more than 40% of the total watch time comes from viewers choosing to listen in a dubbed language. Auto dubbing will help your videos reach a much bigger audience. YouTube is also rolling out new AI tools and making improvements to existing ones. Dreamtrack, the tool that lets creators make unique soundtracks for shorts with text prompts, is getting better. DreamScreen, which lets you generate AI image and video backgrounds, is getting a major update. They’re also adding AI brainstorming and planning tools. The Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio now generates full video outlines, title ideas, and thumbnail concepts. And recommendations are getting smarter. Using AI, YouTube will better analyze viewer behavior to help videos reach the right audience faster. Lots of things are coming in 2025, and these are just the biggest updates from Neil’s life.
