Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s accusers, has died, according to a statement released by her family on April 25. Giuffre, 41, passed away near her home in Neergabby, Australia, with the cause of death determined to be suicide.
Family’s Statement
Giuffre’s family described her as a “fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking.” They added, “She was the light that lifted so many survivors. Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure.”
Giuffre’s Role in Exposing Epstein’s Abuse
Giuffre was among the most outspoken survivors of Epstein’s abuse and played a critical role in the investigations that eventually led to criminal convictions against the financier and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. In 2015, Giuffre accused Epstein of paying her when she was 17 years old to have sex with him, Prince Andrew, Harvard lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and some of Epstein’s other friends.
Allegations Against Prince Andrew
Giuffre alleged that Maxwell lured her into Epstein’s circle and filed a sex abuse lawsuit against Prince Andrew in 2021, alleging that she had been trafficked to the British royal family member by Epstein three times around 2001 when she was a teenager. Andrew settled the suit in 2022, vehemently denying the allegations.
Defamation Lawsuit Against Maxwell
Giuffre also filed a defamation lawsuit against Maxwell in 2015, which was settled two years later. Epstein was charged with sex trafficking in 2019 but died by suicide in federal custody before he was brought to trial. Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022.

Giuffre’s Decision to Speak Out
Giuffre previously told The Miami Herald that the birth of her daughter in 2010 led her to speak out about the abuse. “It was when she held her newborn daughter in her arms that Virginia realized she had to fight back against those who had abused her and so many others,” her family said.
Recent Health Issues
In March, Giuffre shared on Instagram that she had gone into kidney failure and was close to dying after a school bus crashed into her car at roughly 68 mph.

Giuffre’s family paid tribute to her, saying, There are no words that can express the grave loss we feel today with the passing of our sweet Virginia. She was heroic and will always be remembered for her incredible courage and loving spirit.” They added, “In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight. We know that she is with the angels.
Legacy
Giuffre lived in Australia with her three children and leaves behind a legacy as a courageous advocate for survivors of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
