U.S. President Criticizes Putin: Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has issued a severe warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, threatening the possibility of World War III following Trump’s criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The warning came after Trump said he would “absolutely” consider new sanctions against Moscow, in response to ongoing missile and drone attacks in Ukraine that have caused numerous casualties.
In a post on X, Medvedev stated:
“Regarding Trump’s comments about Putin ‘playing with fire’ and ‘really bad things’ happening to Russia — the only REALLY BAD thing I know of is WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!” Medvedev was Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012 and served as prime minister from 2012 to 2020.
Trump’s frustration over his failure to end the war, which he once claimed could be resolved within 24 hours, grew over the weekend after a Russian drone strike killed at least 13 people in Ukraine.
Still on U.S. President Criticizes Putin
Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have increased recently, but Putin has been accused of delaying peace talks.
On Tuesday, Trump warned of “serious consequences,” saying: “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, a lot of really bad things would have already happened to Russia — and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!”
Although Trump did not specify the consequences, The Wall Street Journal and CNN reported that new U.S. sanctions on Russia might be announced as early as this week. On Sunday, Trump told reporters he was “absolutely” considering the move.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, has not directly responded to Trump’s recent remarks. However, earlier statements from Moscow blamed Ukraine for escalating tensions and claimed the country was reacting to increased attacks on Russian civilians.
Russian authorities reported intercepting nearly 150 Ukrainian drones in recent days, including 33 aimed at Moscow.
