Pastor Tunde Bakare advises Tinubu to stop playing God

Tunde Bakare Advises Tinubu: Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging him not to “play God” and expressing concerns that the current administration is steering the country off course.

Speaking during a state of the nation address on Sunday, April 20, at the church’s auditorium in Ikeja, Lagos, Bakare called for a more humble and reflective approach to governance.

In his address, Bakare urged the President to reconsider his leadership style and take accountability for the rising discontent in the nation. “Stop playing God,” he said directly, emphasizing that while he disagrees with Tinubu’s methods, he does not wish for his failure. “The current administration is steering the polity adrift,” he added, urging the government to “embrace humility.”

Clarifying the intent behind his words, Bakare explained that his message was not meant as condemnation but as a call to action aimed at guiding leadership onto a more constructive path. He expressed concern over what he saw as the weakening of democratic institutions, particularly the legislature, under Tinubu’s leadership.

Bakare also criticized the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the National Assembly, suggesting it was a retaliatory move in response to her advocacy for transparency and accountability. He challenged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to provide a clear explanation for the suspension and reaffirm the chamber’s commitment to democratic values.
