Top 14 contestants saved: The Judges’ Deliberation Process
After the host, Ryan Seacrest, revealed the Top 10 singers who received the most fan votes and entered the Top 14, the judges had a mere commercial break’s length of time to agree on four contestants to save and six to send home. The judges, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, stepped out of the sound stage to discuss their choices.
Carrie’s Concerns
Carrie Underwood revealed that she was initially hesitant to make the cuts, stating, “My brain was almost like: ‘Six! I can’t do it!'” She added that the judges were “pretty much aligned” in their decisions, but some concessions had to be made. Underwood’s strategy during the episode was to prioritize her favorite contestants, and she even asked Luke Bryan to rank them in order.
The Saved Contestants
The judges ultimately decided to save music teacher Desmond Roberts, airport pianist Josh King, British singer/songwriter Ché, and powerhouse vocalist Amanda Barise. King, who performed “Never Gonna Give You Up” during the episode, admitted that he was convinced he was going home and decided to go out with a bang.
Luke’s Observations
Luke Bryan noted that Carrie was initially reluctant to make the cuts, recalling, “The 2½ minutes was: ‘Come on, Carrie. Give us the answer… Carrie, we’ve got a minute left. What is the answer?'” Bryan, who has been a judge on the show for eight seasons, observed that Underwood was new to being on the judges’ side of the table after winning Season 4 of “Idol” in 2005.

The Judges’ Decision-Making Process
The judges considered the contestants’ “whole body of work,” not just their performances in Episodes 10 and 11, when deciding on the four saves. Bryan stated that they had to use their knowledge and information gathered throughout the season to make their decisions. He added that he was “really happy” with the contestants they chose to save.
The Eliminated Contestants
Episode 11 marked the end of the road for six contestants: Isaiah Misailegalu, Drew Ryn, Olivier Bergeron, Baylee Littrell, Zaylie Windsor, and Victor Solomon. Misailegalu stated that he was looking forward to the rest of his journey and was excited to start putting out music. Littrell, on the other hand, was concerned about breaking the news to his grandfather.
