Russia launches air attack: Russian forces launched a massive aerial attack on Ukrainian cities overnight, firing 367 drones and missiles, including at the capital Kyiv, in the largest attack of the war so far. The assault killed at least 12 people and injured dozens more, with regional authorities and rescuers initially reporting 13 deaths. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that the strike was “combined and ruthless,” aimed at civilians, and demonstrated Russia’s goal of spreading fear and death.
The attack comes as Ukraine and Russia prepared for the third and final day of a prisoner swap, exchanging a total of 1,000 people each. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling on the United States to speak out against Russia’s actions. “The silence of America, the silence of others in the world only encourages Putin,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. He emphasized that every terrorist strike by Russia warrants new sanctions.

Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, emphasized the need for pressure on Russia, stating that without it, Moscow will continue to build up forces and commit atrocities. “Moscow will fight as long as it has the ability to produce weapons,” Yermak wrote.
In response to Ukrainian actions, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting or destroying 95 Ukrainian drones over a four-hour period. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 12 Ukrainian drones were intercepted on their way to the capital.
Meanwhile, ceasefire efforts between Ukraine and Russia have stalled, with US President Donald Trump declining to place further sanctions on Moscow for not agreeing to an immediate pause in fighting. The prisoner swap continues, with 307 Ukrainian prisoners returning home as part of the exchange deal.
