Ronaldo didn’t push Benitez: Former Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez has clarified that his exit from Real Madrid was not influenced by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking in an interview with MBC Masr 2, Benitez addressed long-standing speculation about a supposed rift with the Portuguese star during his brief tenure at the Bernabéu in the 2015/16 season.
“It’s not true that I left Real Madrid because of Cristiano Ronaldo,” Benitez stated. “There was never any issue between us. He’s a phenomenal player.”

Benitez went on to explain that his departure was due to internal challenges within the club, unrelated to Ronaldo.
The Spanish coach also took time to praise Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, commending the Egyptian for his consistent brilliance on the pitch.
“He makes a difference in every game,” Benitez said. “When a player takes care of himself and keeps performing at this level, age becomes irrelevant. Of course, Salah deserves the Ballon d’Or — why not?”
