PDP Crisis Deepens Further: PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike Withdraws from Reconciliation Efforts, Blames Makinde for Party Turmoil
The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified over the weekend as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, formally withdrew from all previously agreed reconciliation efforts within the party.
In a statement personally signed and released on May 25, the former governor of Rivers State squarely blamed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for the worsening state of the party, citing a consistent failure to uphold agreed terms. Wike stated that the lack of adherence to previously reached agreements was at the heart of the PDP’s troubles, naming Makinde as the chief instigator.
He also accused other key PDP figures, including Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, of betrayal and dishonesty, claiming they repeatedly violated mutual understandings. Tracing the origins of the party’s internal disputes back to the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, Wike pledged to continue his fight for justice.
Wike detailed several meetings held in an effort to resolve the crisis, including a G5 gathering in Lagos and a subsequent expanded meeting in Abuja at the residence of former Senate President Bukola Saraki. Despite resolutions reached—such as reaffirming Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and withdrawing all legal matters involving Rivers State—Wike alleged that these agreements were later blatantly disregarded.

He highlighted a series of breaches, including a meeting of South-East leaders, allegedly orchestrated by Makinde and Mbah, to pressure the party into accepting Ude Okoye as Secretary, and the unlawful appointment of the Deputy National Secretary to act as National Secretary.
According to Wike, further violations included a forged rebuttal of a legitimate party letter regarding the Anambra governorship candidacy, which led to INEC’s refusal to attend a zonal congress in Jos due to irregular signatories.
Wike emphasized his long-standing loyalty to the PDP since 1998 and expressed disappointment at the betrayal by those he had supported politically. In conclusion, he announced his withdrawal from all reconciliation agreements and vowed to continue his fight for justice within the party.
