New Parole Board leadership: Alexandra Marks CBE Appointed Chair of the Parole Board
The Lord Chancellor has approved the appointment of Alexandra Marks CBE as the Chair of the Parole Board for a 5-year term from July 18, 2025. The Parole Board is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ).
Role of the Parole Board
The Parole Board works with its criminal justice partners to protect the public by risk assessing prisoners to decide whether they can be safely released into the community. Established by the Criminal Justice Act 1967, the Parole Board plays a critical role in the UK’s justice system.
Appointment Process
Appointments and re-appointments to the Parole Board (with the exception of Judicial members) are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. This ensures that the appointment process is fair, transparent, and based on merit.

Biography of Alexandra Marks CBE
Alexandra Marks CBE has an impressive background in law and public service. She has been the Chair of RICS’ Regulatory Tribunal since 2023 and has held various judicial positions, including Recorder since 2002 and Deputy High Court Judge since 2010. Alexandra has also served as a First Tier Tribunal Judge of the General Regulatory Chamber since 2018.
Previous Roles
Alexandra Marks CBE has held several notable positions in the past, including Commissioner at the Criminal Cases Review Commission (2013-2018) and Judicial Appointments Commissioner (2012-2018). She was also previously Chair of Prisoners’ Education Trust (2012-2018). Her extensive experience and expertise make her well-suited to lead the Parole Board.
Term of Appointment
Alexandra Marks CBE will serve as Chair of the Parole Board for a 5-year term, starting on July 18, 2025. During her tenure, she will work to ensure that the Parole Board continues to protect the public while also providing a fair and effective parole system.
