Museum appoints new trustees: Imperial War Museum Appoints Three New Trustees

The Imperial War Museum has appointed three new trustees to its board, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise from various fields. The new appointees are Professor Dame Janet Beer, Emma Loxton, and Sheena Wagstaff.

 

Professor Dame Janet Beer

Professor Dame Janet Beer has an impressive background in higher education, having served as Vice-Chancellor at Oxford Brookes University and the University of Liverpool. She was President of Universities UK from 2017 to 2019 and was awarded a damehood in 2018 for her services to higher education and equality and diversity. Dame Janet Beer currently holds several positions, including Chair of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, Member of the Board of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, and Independent Governor of Northumbria University.

 

Emma Loxton

Emma Loxton is a partner at McKinsey & Company, where she co-leads the firm’s work with defense, transport, and industrial companies in the UK. With over 15 years of experience advising institutions in the private sector on strategy and transformation, Emma has also provided extensive pro bono support to arts institutions and homelessness charities in the UK. Her expertise in strategy and financial sustainability will be valuable assets to the Imperial War Museum.

 

Sheena Wagstaff

Sheena Wagstaff is a renowned art curator with extensive experience working at leadership level for institutions with strong civic values. She was formerly Chair of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and Chief Curator of Tate Modern. Wagstaff has a proven track record of collaborating with architects on capital design projects and has served on various advisory boards and committees, including the Professional Fine Arts Committee of the Foundation for Art & Preservation in Embassies, Washington DC.

Appointment Details

The appointments to the Imperial War Museum’s board of trustees have been made in accordance with the Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments. Trustees of the Imperial War Museum are not remunerated. As part of the appointment process, the new trustees have declared any significant political activity undertaken in the last five years. Dame Janet Beer declared that she canvassed on behalf of the Labour Party in 1997, while Emma Loxton disclosed her marriage to Gareth Davies CB, Permanent Secretary of the Department for Business and Trade. Sheena Wagstaff has not declared any significant political activity.
