JAMB Holds Back Results: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that it has withheld the results of 39,834 candidates from the more than 1.9 million applicants who participated in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This announcement was made by JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Friday, May 9, during the official release of the 2025 UTME results.
Prof. Oloyede explained that the withholding of the results was due to various examination irregularities that were detected during the conduct of the examination. These irregularities, which could involve malpractice, fraud, or other forms of dishonesty, have led the board to take the necessary precautionary measure of withholding the affected candidates’ results pending further investigations.
In addition to addressing the issue of withheld results, Prof. Oloyede also revealed that a significant number of underage candidates had registered for the examination. Specifically, he stated that 41,000 underage candidates were discovered to have participated in the exam. Out of this number, 467 candidates managed to meet the prescribed minimum score required to pass the examination. However, there were also disturbing reports of dishonest behavior, as 50 candidates were found to be involved in a cheating scandal during the examination.

This announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to curb examination fraud and maintain the integrity of the UTME. In this regard, Prof. Oloyede also shared that a total of 80 individuals across the country are currently under investigation for various forms of examination fraud. These suspects are being interrogated as part of a wider effort to hold those responsible for malpractices accountable and ensure that the examination process remains fair and transparent for all candidates.
JAMB’s efforts to maintain the credibility of the examination system continue to be a priority, as the board aims to safeguard the future of students and ensure that only those who have truly earned their qualifications are admitted to tertiary institutions. The investigation into these irregularities and fraudulent activities is expected to continue, with further actions to be taken as necessary
