A family of four—husband, wife, and their two children—were reportedly murdered by unidentified gunmen in Isseke, located in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Thursday, May 22.
Local residents identified the victims as members of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo’s family from Ekwuru Isseke (Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke). According to the residents, the attackers broke into the family’s home while they were asleep, killing them in cold blood and leaving their bodies inside the rooms.
The motive for the attack remains unknown.
“Preliminary findings suggest that the family was attacked without provocation. The victims’ bodies have been recovered and taken to the mortuary, while investigations are currently underway. The command has extended its condolences to the family and friends of the victims and is working diligently to track down those responsible. Security presence in the area has been intensified by a joint task force, and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” a security source stated.
The state police command has not yet released an official statement regarding the tragic incident.
