FG Unveils Housing Plans

FG unveils plans to distribute 753 houses reclaimed from Emefiele

FG Unveils Housing Plans: The Federal Government has announced plans for the distribution of 753 housing units recently forfeited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, made the disclosure on Monday, May 26, during the inauguration of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) board in Abuja.

The minister stated that the houses were transferred to the Ministry of Housing under the directive of President Bola Tinubu, and the ministry has since taken full control of the properties.

Dangiwa explained that the next phase involves conducting a comprehensive integrity test on the buildings to evaluate their structural condition, as well as an assessment of the estate’s infrastructure and supporting facilities.

“We intend to bring the houses to a semi-finished state before distributing them to Nigerians,” he said.

He further announced that a technical committee would be established on the same day to carry out the assessment within a four-week timeframe. After the evaluation, the ministry will seek funding to complete the houses and begin their allocation.

The minister noted that while some houses will be allocated to fulfill certain government needs, most will be made available to the public.

He assured that the official process for the disposal of the houses will be communicated once the assessment is completed.

Dangiwa also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Housing’s Renewed Hope Portal will be used for the allocation, allowing Nigerians to access, choose their preferred house, and select suitable payment options.
