Famous just by praying: Pastor Jerry Eze, the convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) and Lead Pastor of Streams of Joy International, has shared candid insights into his unexpected rise to prominence through online prayer sessions. Speaking during a live interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the popular cleric opened up about how the NSPPD movement began and how fame was never part of the plan.
According to Pastor Eze, the prayer platform wasn’t even named NSPPD initially. It began as a simple act of obedience to God’s call to lead prayers, without any ambition for recognition or influence. “In fact, it wasn’t called NSPPD at first,” he revealed. “After a while, we asked ourselves, ‘What’s the name of this thing we’re doing?’ So we decided to put a name to it. I didn’t know people could become famous just by praying. I honestly didn’t know.”
He went on to express surprise at how something so spiritually routine could resonate so widely across the world. “I was simply doing what I was asked to do. The fame that followed was not something I imagined, and it still amazes me.”

Pastor Eze also spoke about the contrast between his on-screen persona and his off-camera personality. While viewers are used to seeing his fiery, passionate delivery during NSPPD broadcasts, he described himself as calm and reserved in real life. “Anyone who knows me personally knows that’s not really me—the guy shouting every morning. I’m very calm. Outside NSPPD, I rarely talk. I’m quiet and careful with my words. So sometimes people struggle to reconcile the person they see online with who I am in real life,” he said.
He confessed that he initially found it hard to watch recordings of his broadcasts due to their intensity. “I couldn’t watch myself after doing NSPPD. I kept thinking, ‘Take it easy.’ But every time I show up, something keeps pushing me. It’s not me; it’s the fire of the Spirit that takes over.”
Despite the challenges that come with leading such a massive daily prayer platform, Pastor Eze emphasized that his greatest motivation is seeing lives transformed. “I love to see people smile. I love seeing people free,” he said with conviction.
The NSPPD movement, which began as a small online gathering, has grown into one of the largest daily prayer streams globally, attracting millions of viewers from around the world. Pastor Eze’s story continues to inspire many who have found hope, healing, and restoration through the platform.
