Court remands Terry Apala: On Friday, April 25, Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, ordered the remand of singer Terry Alexander Ejeh, popularly known as Terry Apala, in a Correctional Centre over allegations of Naira note mutilation.
Terry Apala was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge related to tampering with Naira notes. The charge stated: “That you, TERRY ALEXANDER EJEH, on the 5th day of January, 2025, at La Madison Place, Oniru, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with Naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by marching on the same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.” He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following his plea, the prosecuting counsel, S.I. Suleiman, requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant.
Defence counsel, Felix Nwabuda, notified the court of a bail application dated April 23, 2025, and requested a short date for its hearing.

While appealing to the court for an early hearing of the bail request, Nwabuda also sought the temporary release of the defendant to the defence team, assuring the court of his client’s availability for proceedings. He noted that Terry Apala voluntarily returned from the United Kingdom on April 23, 2025, in response to the EFCC’s invitation.
The prosecution opposed the request, arguing that the application was unusual and unprecedented.
“We request time to thoroughly review and respond to the application so the court can deliver a well-informed decision,” Suleiman said.
Justice Aluko, in a brief ruling, denied the defence’s request.
