Man apprehended for distributing adulterated cooking oil in Abuja

Cooking Oil Safety Concerns: Vigilante members operating in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have apprehended a man accused of adulterating cooking oil and selling it to the public.

According to John Samuel, commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in the area, the suspect, identified as Peter Amos, was arrested on Friday night at the Tipper Garage area in the Kabusa district, where he lives and carried out the illicit activity.

In a confessional video obtained by *Daily Trust* on Sunday, April 20, the suspect detailed how he filled five-litre gallons with water, added a small quantity of cooking oil, and sold the mixture as genuine cooking oil.

“I sell one gallon for N10,000 or sometimes less,” he confessed.

He further revealed that he had previously trained as a mechanic before abandoning that path and turning to fraudulent activities.

He also pledged to reveal the identity of an accomplice involved in the scheme.

The vigilante commander said the arrest followed complaints from local residents who reported being defrauded by the suspect.

The suspect has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Police authorities in the area confirmed the arrest but declined to provide additional details.
