Alleged employment scammer surrenders to EFCC

Alleged job scam suspect: A mild drama unfolded at the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 2, 2025, when a middle-aged man voluntarily walked into the office and turned himself in for impersonation and obtaining money under false pretence, citing fear of the EFCC as his reason.

The suspect, identified as Idris Adamu, arrived at the EFCC office around 1 p.m. and requested to meet with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad. He expressed a desire to confess his past criminal activities.

During the meeting, he stated:

“I came to repent of my sins and confess to the EFCC. In the past, I have received a total sum of N9 million through my bank account from various individuals under the false promise of securing them employment in Federal Government agencies. I have now changed, but I am afraid of the EFCC.”

After hearing his confession, DCE Sa’ad commended him for coming forward and ordered that the self-confessed suspect be transferred to the investigation department for a detailed probe into the matter.
