Adviser dismissed over leaks: U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly dismissed his National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, and his deputy, Alex Wong, following a major security breach involving a sensitive group chat.
The dismissal comes weeks after Waltz mistakenly added journalist Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic to a private Signal chat that included discussions about planned bomb strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. The group reportedly included top national security officials, and Goldberg later published key details from the conversation after initial denials from officials that classified information had been shared.
According to Daily Mail sources, Waltz’s departure was anticipated, and President Trump is expected to announce it formally soon.
Political commentator Mark Halperin first broke the news on his 2Way YouTube show, citing widespread dissatisfaction within the national security establishment. “This has to do about competence, not ideology,” he noted.
Still on Adviser dismissed over leaks
Waltz, 51, a former Republican congressman from Florida, came under fire in March when he acknowledged creating the group chat and including Goldberg by mistake. Despite denying any prior contact with the journalist, he struggled to explain how Goldberg’s number was saved in his phone. Speaking to Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Waltz said, “Well, if you have somebody else’s contact and then it, and then somehow it gets sucked in…”
Though Goldberg initially withheld specific details, he later published them—including strike timing and weapons data—after confirmations that the content was not classified.
The leak has sparked serious concerns about operational security and competence within the administration’s national security team.
