Authorities reported that the unnamed suspect was apprehended without incident after informing police during a phone call that he was armed and demanding $1 million. The man was found seated in his vehicle outside the company’s headquarters, claiming to have a pistol and requesting to speak with a negotiator. A firearm was later discovered in his car, according to law enforcement.

The FBI and local police responded to the scene and successfully convinced the suspect to surrender. The Minnetonka Police Department confirmed a strong police presence surrounded the area late Monday morning and reassured the public there was “no threat” following the arrest.
The event has renewed concerns about security at UnitedHealthcare’s facilities. Since the December 4 murder of CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan, the headquarters has reportedly tightened its security protocols. Local media report that police have maintained a visible presence at the building since then.
Thompson was fatally shot just hours before he was scheduled to speak at a New York conference. The alleged shooter, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and terrorism. He also faces federal charges, with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announcing plans to seek the death penalty.
Bondi called the killing “an act of political violence,” accusing Mangione of intentionally stalking and executing Thompson in broad daylight, thereby endangering the public. Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, criticized the decision to pursue capital punishment, labeling it “barbaric.”
At this time, authorities have not disclosed any connection between Monday’s suspect and Mangione. The investigation remains ongoing.
