Tinubu honors Bill Gates: President Bola Tinubu has awarded the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) to Bill Gates, co-chair of the Gates Foundation.
The honour was presented in Lagos on Tuesday, June 3, during an event attended by high-ranking government officials, including Ali Pate, the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, and Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, among others. The award acknowledges Gates’ significant contributions to global health, education, and poverty reduction, as well as his strategic collaborations with Nigeria.

Gates is visiting Nigeria to engage with President Tinubu and other senior officials regarding reforms in the country’s primary healthcare sector.
During his visit, he will also take part in a Goalkeepers Nigeria event centered on Africa’s innovative future and meet with local scientists and stakeholders involved in developing the country’s national AI strategy and expanding health solutions.
His trip follows the Gates Foundation’s announcement of a \$200 billion commitment over the next two decades to support life-saving and life-improving initiatives, particularly throughout Africa.
