Reasons Meghan Markle Rejected

Reasons Meghan Markle’s 2022 Vogue cover was turned down

Reasons Meghan Markle Rejected: New information has surfaced regarding Meghan Markle’s reported fallout with former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful — and it involved more than just missing out on a cover.

According to several insiders who spoke with Page Six and Daily Mail, the tension between the Duchess of Sussex and the fashion editor began when preparations for a September 2022 British Vogue cover were underway. Markle was scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester that same month, and the magazine feature was intended to spotlight this event.

A source revealed it wasn’t only about timing — Markle allegedly presented a list of demands. She reportedly wanted complete control over the creative process: selecting the photographer, writer, approving final edits and cover lines, and even pushing for a “global cover” that would appear simultaneously on both UK and US Vogue.

“Meghan asked for control over \[the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue,” a source told Page Six. “Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”

Markle then supposedly contacted US Vogue editor Anna Wintour directly to pitch the idea again. Wintour agreed to a Zoom call as a courtesy, but the request was denied. At that time, Serena Williams was already booked as the cover star.

Interestingly, Adele remains the only celebrity to have ever appeared on both US and UK Vogue covers at the same time — a milestone Markle aimed to achieve.

Still on Reasons Meghan Markle Rejected

However, reports differ. Another insider claims Markle never actually requested the cover; instead, Vogue had approached her multiple times, especially after her marriage to Prince Harry. Notably, Markle previously collaborated with Enninful in 2019 when she guest-edited the “Forces for Change” issue, choosing to remain behind the scenes rather than appear on the cover herself.

In the end, Markle did secure a high-profile media feature in September 2022 — but not with Vogue. She appeared on the digital cover of The Cut alongside Megan Thee Stallion while promoting her now-cancelled “Archetypes” podcast. She was also set for a Variety cover that was delayed following Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

As for the current state of Enninful and Markle’s relationship? Reports say they are no longer on speaking terms. “Edward was furious to have lost the project,” an insider told Daily Mail. “He could only offer a big feature inside the magazine and online — but she turned it down.”

Enninful stepped down as British Vogue editor in February 2024.
