The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, stated that his participation in the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is centered on combating bad governance, hunger, and poverty, rather than pursuing personal political ambitions.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, made this comment while speaking in Abuja on May 19. He was responding to reports suggesting that he had agreed to be former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2027 general election. The reports also claimed that Atiku had agreed to serve only one term and was prepared to formalize this arrangement in writing.
When asked to confirm or deny the existence of such an agreement, Obi said:
“The only coalition I am interested in is the one against hunger, poverty, and the poor state of healthcare and education in the country. I am not desperate for any position.”
