Governor Zulum Urges Government: Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has appealed to the Federal Government to adopt strong and effective measures to stop Boko Haram insurgents from taking over Marte town.
Marte, a Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno State, Nigeria, lies on the western shore of Lake Chad. The town of Marte acts as the LGA’s administrative center and is located at approximately 12°22′N latitude and 13°49′E longitude.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, May 18, Zulum explained that his visit to Marte was aimed at boosting community collaboration, fostering resilience, and showing support for the security forces.
“Marte was resettled about four years ago, but sadly, in the last three days, it was attacked and its residents displaced once again,” he said.

He revealed that around 20,000 residents had escaped from Marte to Dikwa and warned that this mass displacement could increase the risk of young people being recruited by insurgents.
“Alhamdulillah, we went back to Marte yesterday and spent the night there with support from the Nigerian Army and our civilian volunteers. The community has now been resettled for a second time,” he added.
The governor urged the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to take all necessary actions to retain control of the town. “Marte Local Government used to have over 300 towns and villages, but now only one remains. If we lose this last one, we could lose the entire LGA to insurgents, and that is unacceptable.”
Zulum emphasized the need for unity and collaboration, calling on both the government and military to work hand in hand to protect the remaining community.
He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for security agencies in their efforts to restore lasting peace in Borno State.
