Medical Emergency On Stage: During a press conference held by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday, May 6, State Senator Ileana Garcia collapsed while delivering a speech, taking the event in an unexpected direction. Garcia, a Republican representing Florida’s District 36, was discussing environmental legislation when she seemed to lose her balance.
As seen in footage captured by The Florida Channel, Garcia turned to Governor DeSantis, who was off-camera, and mentioned she wasn’t feeling well and needed to sit. Shortly after, she closed her eyes and fainted. Fortunately, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo was close by and caught her, helping her into a chair.
Members of the audience quickly stepped in to assist, offering water and trying to understand what caused the episode. The reason for her fainting was not immediately known.

Despite the scare, Garcia recovered swiftly. Within a minute, she returned to the podium and lightened the atmosphere by joking, “Are you kidding? This was my moment,” before confidently completing her speech.
Governor DeSantis, who was smiling at the end of the video, seemed impressed by Garcia’s resilience. Her poise and quick recovery earned widespread praise, with many commending her as a “trooper” for continuing on despite the incident.
