Lancelot Imasuen criticizes Omotola, Genevieve, and others for ‘neglecting’ Nollywood

Nollywood Veterans Face Criticism: Veteran filmmaker Lancelot Imasuen has criticized prominent Nollywood stars like Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Jim Iyke, and Emeka Ike for ‘turning their backs on the industry that made them famous.’

As he marked his 30th year in Nollywood, Lancelot expressed his concerns over the growing divide between “old” and “new” Nollywood, questioning why many of the industry’s biggest names have faded into the background instead of giving back.

In an interview with Vanguard, he stated:

“Thirty years ago, there were no big stars. Everyone evolved. Those who chose to be behind the camera, like myself, and those who wanted to be in front of it.”

“There was no sense of superiority. We all respected our respective roles and talents. But over time, we have seen Nollywood, which gave rise to great names, being undermined, abandoned, and overlooked, even by those who were nobody back then.”

“That’s the heart of this discussion. Where are the people Nollywood created? Some of them have become bigger than the industry that made them.”

“I’m calling out the Omotolas, the Genevieves, the Emeka Ikes, and the Jim Iykes. I’m also calling on all those who benefited from Nollywood to come and give back to the industry.”

Lancelot urged these stars to return and support Nollywood, stressing that the industry needs its own to survive and prosper.
