Emir of Gwoza laments: Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have killed two vigilantes and ten firewood gatherers in Bokko Ghide community, located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed the incident, stating that the vigilantes (Civilian JTF members) were ambushed and killed by the attackers along Kirawa Road in the Pulka District.
He further explained that the other ten victims were individuals who had ventured into the bush to collect firewood.
“They went into a nearby bush to fetch firewood on Saturday when the insurgents ambushed them, killing ten and leaving two others with critical injuries,” the monarch said.
“We buried the ten victims and transported the injured to Maiduguri for medical treatment.”
“It’s deeply saddening that two members of my Civilian JTF, who sacrificed their lives for the protection of our people, were also killed on Friday,” he added.
He prayed for their sacrifices to be rewarded with Janatul Firdaus and asked God to grant their families and the community the strength to bear the loss.
Still on Emir of Gwoza laments
The Emir also praised the state government and the military for their ongoing efforts to combat the Boko Haram insurgency.
“They have made significant efforts in managing this crisis for over a decade. However, we urge the military to enhance their operations by deploying technological warfare, such as drones and other advanced weapons, to bring an end to this crisis,” he said.
He pointed out that with the rainy season approaching, the surge in attacks has left the people in the area fearful. “People are now scared to go to their farms, even though it is time to prepare the land ahead of the rains,” he added.
Murder suspect Chidinma Ojukwu has stated that she did not report the death of Ataga due to fear
