Administrator snubs Reps summons: Rivers Sole Administrator Ibas Again Fails to Appear Before House of Reps Panel
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has once more failed to appear before the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, despite being invited for an interactive session.
The committee, which was inaugurated by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on April 15, 2025, had initially scheduled the meeting for April 17, but it was postponed at Ibas’s request. A new date was fixed for April 24; however, the administrator was again absent.
The session was intended to review the situation in Rivers State since Ibas assumed office. Although he was said to be in Abuja for a National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, he did not attend the committee session at the National Assembly.

It remains uncertain whether a formal invitation was received or acknowledged by Ibas, as the committee has not released any information regarding communication with him.
Following his no-show, committee chairman Rep. Julius Ihonvbere and other members left Committee Room 301 without addressing the media.
When approached by reporters on Thursday, Ihonvbere simply stated, “No comment.”
With uncertainty surrounding the issue, the meeting between the Ad-Hoc Committee and the Rivers State administrator has now been postponed indefinitely.
