Wike Sets Peace Condition: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his willingness to reconcile with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, provided that Fubara offers a heartfelt apology for the ongoing political turmoil in the state.
Since Fubara assumed office as governor in 2023, tensions have risen between him and Wike, culminating in a severe political divide that split the state’s House of Assembly into two opposing factions.
As the crisis escalated and began affecting the state’s security, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency. In response, the president suspended Governor Fubara for six months and appointed a sole administrator to manage the state’s affairs.
Still on Wike Sets Peace Condition
During a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, April 18, Wike questioned the authenticity of the efforts to resolve the dispute and stressed the importance of honest dialogue.
“Has anyone actually reached out to anyone? I don’t like hypocrites,” Wike stated.
“I asked her [referring to an unnamed individual] to mention just one elder in Rivers State who has genuinely worked to foster peace.”
He continued, “In the end, if nothing comes out of it, we’ll be right back where we started—which is pointless. The moment Mr. President stepped in, the Assembly members immediately retracted the impeachment notice. I’m open to forgiveness—if he approaches with sincerity.”
I will oppose Atiku if he contests again – Fayose
